One of my favorite sayings is “chisel until your dreams manifest”. This came to me a few months ago when I was feeling discouraged about the amount of progress I had made towards my goals. To pull myself out of the slump I was in, I wrote down all the positive things I had done that had put me on track to accomplishing my dreams. Once I finished writing, I discovered I had done more than I had given myself credit for. All the little nicks of progress I had made was like someone chiseling a piece of art. In the beginning, it doesn’t look like much but the more you work on it, it starts to form into something more recognizable.
Progress reports are a great tool for measuring growth and areas that need improvement. Most companies, from the smallest firms to the biggest corporations have some type of progress report. As individuals, we should create progress report for our personal lives. It is so easy to overlook your areas of growth because like most people, you are focused on making the big finish. When was the last time you saw or paid attention to a progress report? Were you in high school or college the last time it mattered?
Take a pencil and write down your goals. Write down all the positive things you have done towards each of them, even if it’s just one thing. Assess the areas in which you need improvement and make those your immediate goals moving forward. Avoid writing down the negatives. We spend enough time beating ourselves up. The purpose here is to encourage yourself. Seeing your accomplishments, no matter how small will motivate you to push harder.

“Without continual growth and progress, such words as improvement, achievement, and success have no meaning”. ~Benjamin Franklin

I am noticing in the younger generation work force that they are quitting too soon. There is something to be said about a person that doesn’t give up. Ask any successful person what their secret is and they will tell you that it is perseverance. Great post!
Great post! I used to think that moving slowly meant that I’d miss something, end of behind, miss an opportunity, etc. but it doesn’t. Slow progress is definitely better than none at all so I’ve learned to embrace even the smallest changes in the right direction.
